How to Choose Web Hosting For Your Blog

Choosing a web host for your blog is an important decision. You need to choose a host that is there when you need them. Your business needs a reliable, and easy to use, host.

Here’s how to find one!

Step One: Research the possibilities. Look for reliable hosts based on factors such as ease of use, reliability, longevity and customer service. You want a website host to be in this business for the long haul so you don’t have to switch hosts.

You also want them to be reliable and that means good security, respect for their customer’s needs with good customer service. Much of this information you’ll find online by doing searches for the company name.

Step Two: Eliminate potential web hosts if they do not offer hosting for your chosen blog platform. You’re not likely to find many who don’t host blogs so this is an easy step.

If you can take a trial or explore their administrative panel do so now. Make sure it’s easy for you to use and understand. If not, eliminate them. There are too many other user friendly hosts out there to bother with one that has a steep learning curve.

Step Three: Assuming you now have a short lists of possibilities, compare costs. Which one is the most budget friendly? Some people also recommend testing the customer service at this point. Ask a question and see how they respond. Are they prompt? Courteous? Was the customer service process easy to use and understand?

Finally, read the terms of service before you give them your credit card information and buy their hosting package. Once you’ve made your decision, you’re ready to direct your domain and get started blogging!

One more thing. You might want to sign up for Monthly service and test the host out before paying for an entire year even if you will save money. There are some unscrupulous hosts out there. Trust me, their clients often end up transferring their hosting to Premium Web Design and Hosting.

Buy Web Hosting – Checklist for Choosing a Web Host

Buy Web Hosting - Checklist for Choosing a Web Host

Navigating the rapidsChoosing a web host is an important decision. Affordable service is a primary concern but you also need to ensure that the web host you choose has a server that meets your needs as far as what features and functions. Use the following checklist to find the most appropriate web host for your website and your needs.

(1) Be sure the control panel is user friendly. You are probably going to spend quite a bit of time in the control panel so you want one that doesn't make you want to pull your hair out. I recommend using a host that has cpanel which is what I use here at Premium Web Design and Hosting.

(2) FTP transfer is an absolute must. You will need a reliable way to upload and download files to and from your website. Be sure to check with the web host you choose to find out what port they use for ftp. As a security measure, Premium Web uses a different port from the standard but all you have to do is put the port # into your software and it works just as easily as the standard.

(3) Review the plans and make sure there is one that meets your needs for space and bandwidth. Keep in mind that most hosts offer a lot more than you need to increase the perceived value of the plans.

(4) You should be able to easily upgrade and downgrade from one plan to another. For example, here at Premium Web, you simply contact support and let me know you want to upgrade. The account doesn't have to be moved or recreated or anything. I go into my server admin area and click a couple buttons and the upgrade is done.

(5) Ask the potential web host about security. No server is 100% hacker proof but the web host should be making every effort to ensure that your site doesn't get hacked.

(6) As I mentioned in the intro to this article, you need to ensure that the plan you choose has the appropriate features and functions i.e. ftp, e-commerce, email, mysql databases, statistics, etc.

(7) It's also important to look at web hosting reviews of the provider done by actual clients. Google the company name and find out more about them to ensure they have a solid reputation in the industry. Look at how long they have been in business. Ask the company if they own their own server or if they are a resellers. There is nothing wrong with signing up with a reseller as long as you realize they're the middle man when it comes to more complex support issues.

(8) The last thing to look at is price. The reason I listed it last is because even though it was probably first on your list, it shouldn't be. There are lots of cheap web hosts out there and you typically get what you pay for. My clients know they can get web hosting elsewhere for a lower price. They've been with me for years, however, because of the personal attention and exceptional customer service that I provide. Price is a factor but it shouldn't be your primary one.

Bottom line: Spend some time doing your research. Find a web host that offers a 30 day money back guarantee and try them out. Some of us may not have millions of customers but that's a good thing. :o )

And now I'd like to invite you to check out my acclaimed web hosting services.

Renew domain name

Often, a registrant (someone who has registered a name) does not receive the renewal notices and the domain name expires. What do you do if this happens to you? Email us and let us research it as it's quite possible that it's not too late to renew the name.

Domains aren't deleted immediately after expiring. Keep in mind that if you are a Premium Web client, we may send you a courtesy email letting you know the name is about to expire. If you registered with Premium Web Domains and we get an undeliverable error, we will make every effort to get the renewal notice to you! Don't count on the larger web hosts to give you that kind of service!
