Thesis Theme Header Image in 3 Easy Steps

Thesis Theme Header ImageWordPress customization can be a challenge especially when it comes to the Thesis theme. It's easy to break your site if you don't know what you are doing. When I first started using this theme, it took me entirely too long to figure out how to do something as simple as adding my header. The only way I found to do it was to modify the custom_functions file which I admit I broke on the first try. I would like to share with you the simple, 3 step way that I found to add your header to your website in just a few minutes without breaking the entire website.

Here are the steps to easily installing your thesis theme header image. You will need WordPress, Thesis, and the Thesis OpenHook plugin.

In your WordPress Admin area:

(1) Go to Appearance | Thesis OpenHook

(2) Choose "thesis_hook_header' from dropdown and enter the code for the header in the box i.e.
<a href="http://www.premiumwebdesign.com/" title="Premium Web Development LLC">
<img src="http://www.premiumwebdesign.com/images/pwd-header-Oct09.jpg" alt="Christian Business web design and hosting" height="200" width="700" style="border:0px" />
</a>

(3) Click on the Save button

Optional: You may also want to check the box that says "Remove Thesis default header" if you don't want your site name and title to appear.

Be sure to check your site and be sure it worked.  If it didn't, double-check the code and especially the path to the image.

Want a header image installed for you for $25? Would like to buy Thesis at a discounted price of $75? All you need to do is email me at g@premiumwebdesign.com.

NOTE: Adding the header for you will require you giving me your wp-admin login but you can change the password after I'm finished.

Thanks!

  1. Thank you for this simple way to update my Thesis header.
    I have added it to my Thesis resources list.
    Very cool.
    I love Thesis. I have Studio Press developer also, yet I find I am installing Thesis on each new site I build. Partly I love the fonts that are so easy to read.

    Thank you so much for sending me this link earlier today. I downloaded the hook now I am not sure where to get the link info for my header from. I have it saved as a pic on my hard drive, do I need to put it on my server? Where do I get the code from? Thanks.

      Hey Cara! You are very welcome. Yes, you need to upload the header to your web space. Usually images are placed in a folder called images.

      The code that’s in my blog post can be modified to fit your header.

      <a href=”http://www.yourdomain.com/” title=”Title of your website”>
      <img src=”http://www.yourdomain.com/images/header.jpg” alt=”Alternate text for image” height=”200″ width=”700″ style=”border:0px” />
      </a>

      Note that the height and width need to be changed to the appropriate #s based on your header.
