An active blog is a fun blog. More comments and discussion can turn a hum drum “hey is anyone reading this?” blog into a whirlwind of activity.
Here are a few ways to get the party started and get more blog comments!
1 - Get your readers involved - There are many ways to inspire your readers to comment. One of them is to simply ask questions in your blog posts. Ask them to share their 2 cents.
2 - Thank them for their comments - Even if you disagree with their comment or they left a link generating “thank you for the valuable information” type of comment, thank them. When people know they’re going to be acknowledged they’re more likely to contribute.
3 - Consider engaging your commenter in further discussion - Acknowledge their comment, expand on it and ask them another question. Once a dialogue is going, other people are likely to jump in.
4 - Be controversial - Controversy sparks discussion and it can be a wild ride but it usually draws traffic to your blog too.
5 - Make it easy to comment - This is a personal decision, but you don’t have to require people to register to leave a comment. You’re likely to get more comments if you don’t.
6 - Give CommentLuv – This handy little WordPress plug-in allows people to track and view their most recent comment. For those who like to see their name in print or who enjoy participating, they’ll comment more often if you have this plug-in.
7 - Let ‘em link - Give readers the ability to create a profile that links to their website. That way they’ll also hopefully not fill their comment space with self promotion.
9 - Track your popular posts and repeat the format or style of information - Your audience may have a favorite subject or style, recognize it and give them more of what they enjoy.
Blog comments aren’t necessarily an indicator that your blog is succeeding but they do make it a more interactive process. To learn more about what data indicates success and what numbers you should be paying attention to, contact Premium Web Design and Hosting today.

Thanks for this post… I’ve had a hard time getting to the blogging thing lately, but I’ve enjoyed reading your tips and suggestions.
I understand Jean. It definitely takes a commitment. What works best for me is to:
(1) Use the WordPress editorial calendar plugin – it’s awesome because I can see a a glance what’s scheduled.
(2) Work a day ahead. I schedule posts in “pending review” mode and put 11 p.m. for the time. Each day, I go in and do the NEXT day’s post. That way, I’m not under as much pressure as I feel like I have all day to get it done. I finalize the post and schedule it for 8 a.m. the next day and voila, I’m done.
I’d love to have you comment on more posts!

You know… Number 4 can backfire…
It’s kinda neat when a hornet’s nest gets stirred, but… It can result in less blog views, when offended people stop following you on twitter…. as recently happened to me when I posted about some wildly inaccurate videos that readily come up in searches about gardening.

Hey Stone! Thanks for stopping by! You are right about creating controversy. It can certainly backfire. I personally am not a controversial person and I’d worry too much that I’d offend someone but I included it in the list because I’ve seen others use it in a way that makes you think “Wow, that really was smart.” If your followers were that easily offended, you can probably replace them without much problem. Move on and use all the other great ways to get more blog comments! Keep up the great work!
