10 Ways to get your website ready for local search

Optimizing your site for local search is very important when it comes to marketing your business locally. This is true whether your business is a brick and mortar or not. You cannot just stick up a website and expect people to come. You have to do what needs to be done to attract the specific traffic that you need. 1. Add local content --  Create content that is locally targeted using local keywords, local slang, and local names for your product or service that are used locally.

2. Link locally – Ask complementary local services sites to link to you and you can link to them as well. While one way is better, it is also beneficial if you link to quality websites and services that are local to you. Just ensure that they are complementary to you and not competition.

3. Do local reviews -- You can list your own products and services and have others review them right on your blog; you can also review complementary sites and services as well. The important thing is use keywords that are local keywords and phrases.

4. Use rich snippets – If you use rich snippets on your site, Google will pick it up and then those snippets will be listed with your links. There are various kinds of snippets such as micro-data, icro-formats, and RDFa which are machine-readable data that will display in a specific way. 5. Cover local happenings – You can also write blog posts and articles about local happenings and occurrences that have to do with your niche. Sometimes it’s okay if it doesn’t have to do with your niche as long as it’s interesting to your target market and includes keywords and keyword phrases that bring in your targeted traffic.

6. Have a community calendar – It is a nice touch to create a community calendar that your audience can add events to and that you can add events to. Make sure each addition includes local keywords and phrases.

7. Blog about local events – Each time an addition is added it can automatically be parsed to the blog, thus adding even more local content to your website.

8. Interview locals for vlogs – Add testimonials from your clients and locals that come into your store or use your services to your blog. These can be in the form of text or even video.

People who are searching for a local business are using search engines more than ever. One way to improve your local SEO is improving your use of title tags within your website and or blog. The title tag is within your website code and gives search engines information about your website. You can comfortably put 10 to 12 words in your title tags. Ensure that titles tags are very specific and thought out.

Selecting the right keywords is the hardest part about using keyword phrases within your title tags. If it doesn’t, then go browse some niche forums. Specifically pay attention to questions people seem to be asking again and again and see if you can answer some of those questions in your content.

Tip #5 – Tell it Differently

If you feel like you’ve really exhausted everything you have to say, then take a concept you’ve already touched on and go deeply into it. Expand on it in depth.

In the spirituality industry, there’s one primary teaching that’s repeated over and over: “Be present.” This one concept is expanded upon again and again, filling up thousands of pages of content.

There are two important things that happen when you’re around other people like yourself. First of all, you get to share ideas, techniques and stories that’ll help you figure out more ways to be successful.

The other thing that happens is that you start to build off of each other’s momentum. If one person is making more money than the others, everyone else will start making more money. Everyone will start taking more action. The energy begets more energy.

If there isn’t a mastermind group near you, then start your own group. It’s not that hard to find likeminded people near you. Get these people together and ask them to bring people they know. Soon, you’ll have a great group of likeminded individuals.

Find a Mentor

If you’re making $2,000 a month and want to be making $5,000 a month, then find someone who’s making $20,000 a month.

This relationship can be a paid relationship, a friendship or a mastermind group relationship. Whatever you need to do, just make sure you have someone in your life that’s where you want to be financially.

This will have a very powerful magnetic effect on your finances. You’ll slowly but surely start making more money.

The bottom line is, who you spend time with has a great deal of influence on your success. Make sure you’re networking properly so that you’re spending your time with the right people.

Share Yourself

Be who you are. Chances are, you’re not the only person teaching what you’re teaching! But people will listen to what you’re saying, not only because of your content, but because they enjoy hearing you share your experience.

If you had a specific experience that relates to what you’re talking about, share it. Believe it or not, this can actually have a big impact on people feeling like they can trust you. Because they feel like they know you more.

“What’s In It For Me?”

The “WIIFM” question is a question that you should answer as quickly as you possibly can. Internet content that rambles on and on without being crystal clear about what they’re getting does not get read, period.

Not only should your WIIFM be totally clear, but you should put it as early in your content as possible. That way, people will know why they should keep reading before they even start reading.

Be Conversational

Write like you talk. Don’t use corporate fluff speak. You’re having a person to person conversation, just over the internet.

Use slang. Start your sentences with “and” or “because” if it sounds natural to you.
And most importantly, put your passion and spirit behind your words.

Let It Sit

Before you publish your content, let it sit for a day or two. Then, come back and review it one more time before you publish it.

Often times the second time around you’ll pick up on things you didn’t the first time. These could be grammatical mistakes, or it could just be more information you can put in that’ll make your content even better.

Credibility

One crucial element to having people listen to what you have to say is credibility. There are so many people on the internet giving different advice; it’s hard to know who to listen to.

Have you helped over 1,000 people solve this specific problem? Make sure they know that. Have you been featured on Fox and CNN? Make sure that’s plastered all over your website. Have you done exactly what you’re teaching, in spades? Make sure they know that.

In short, the question of “why should I listen to you” and “why should I trust you” should be answered before you ask your readers to take your word on something.

Here’s the bottom line: If you write in a way that really connects with your readers, you’ll build more traffic, more loyalty, more referrals and more sales. Write to connect with your visitors.

Building great links is one of the most high impact skills you could develop in your online marketing career. Everyone wants to have tons of inbound links – But how do you actually build these much coveted links? Here are a range of proven tactics you can use to get links back to your website.

Article Distribution

One great way to get your links out there is through article distribution. Write an informative, high-quality article and post it to a variety of article directories, including EzineArticles, Go Articles and SearchWarp.

Once you’ve submitted your articles to several directories, try also submitting them to various directories that specifically host articles in your industry.

Directories

Another great place to get links, often high quality links is through directories.

Directories like the Yahoo! Directory and DMOZ often have very high PageRank. They can send both organic traffic as well as search engine link power your way.

Forum Links

If you’re active on forums related to your industry, having backlinks back to your site can make a big difference. Most forums don’t approve of links in main posts, but links in signature files are often just fine.

Make sure to check and see that the forums have dofollow link rather than nofollow links. Nofollow links are still decent since you’ll get some forum traffic, but dofollow links are what will actually help you rank well in search engines.

The Blogosphere

Another great place to get links from is the blogosphere.

One good place to leave your links is in the “website” section of a blog when you’re leaving a reply. Make sure that you leave an informative, useful comment rather than just a random comment.

Add other blog authors to your blogroll and ask them to do the same.

Press Releases

Having great press releases can result in massive bursts of traffic if done right. Unfortunately, most people don’t do press releases right at all.

Send press releases when you have something that’s attention and newsworthy to send out. Don’t send out press releases just to build links.

If you send out something that’s newsworthy and it’s picked up by news media, that one news article will draw incredible amounts of traffic to your site.

Building Direct Relationships

This is the “old fashioned” way of doing it – Building genuine relationships with other website owners. This method may be as old as the internet itself, but it’s still one of the most effective ways to go about it.

In the web marketing community, many of the experts often trade links on their sites and send emails out to their lists for one another. The same is true in many other industries.

Who do you know that’s in a similar industry? What might you be able to do together that will create a win-win result for both of you?

Building Links – General Mindset

Building links is basically getting the word out about your product. You can do it through people you know, through publishing content, through contacting the media and a multitude of other things.

But the bottom line is this: You’re putting your product out in the world. Do it through as many channels as you possibly can.

Consistency

It’s important that you have a set consistency at which you send your emails. In general, anywhere from once a week to once a month is a good consistency.

If you send your emails more than once a week, people may start to think its spam. If you send your emails less than once a month, people will forget about you.

Once you pick a consistency, stick with it so that people know what to expect from your website.

Building a Relationship

A lot of newsletter writers spend a lot of time on their headline. Because, that’s what gets emails opened after all. Right?

Wrong. Your real headline is in the “from” column. People look at who the email is from more than the subject when they’re deciding whether or not to open an email.

Your goal is to build a relationship with your readers, so that they know when they get an email from you that they’re in for a treat. It’s going to be interesting, informative and useful. You’re not going to spam them.

If you build a relationship with them like that, then your emails will get opened – Almost every time.

Pay Equal Attention to Marketing

Having great content and great marketing are both crucial.

If you don’t have great content, people who come to your site won’t want to stay and won’t come back.

Creating Content: 7 Easy Strategies for Busy Webmasters

It's no secret - especially in light of the most recent Google update - that fresh, unique content is critical to the success of your website. Now, in addition to all the other work you do every day, you need to add "Write a blog post" to your list. You've got plenty of time for that, right?

Probably not. But here are 7 ways you can add fresh content to your blog without spending hours at the keyboard.

Repurpose Older Posts

If you've been blogging for any length of time, you likely have hundreds of articles already on your site. Since old content quickly falls off the front page, chances are - unless you've worked really hard to promote a particular post - no one is reading your old content. Take a look through your old posts and find those which could use a little polish, spend a few minutes updating them, and repost.

Reformat for Greater Exposure

Another great way to repurpose content is to reformat it. Take your old articles and turn them into videos, mind maps, podcasts, or checklists. For non-text items like an audio file, make sure you write a couple of paragraphs of introduction so Google knows what your post is about. Visitors can listen right from their browser, or download to their iPod to enjoy later.

Use Relevant YouTube Videos

Need a quick blog post? Find a relevant video on YouTube and grab the embed link. Just remember, Google can't read video (yet) so if you want to keep the search engines happy, you'll need to write a short, keyword-focused paragraph to introduce your post.

Hire a Ghostwriter

Hiring a ghostwriter is an easy way to get high-quality, unique content created just for you. The cost (and quality) of ghostwriting can vary wildly, though, so be sure you do your homework. Ask colleagues for recommendations, ask potential providers to show you samples of their work, and order one or two articles as a test before committing to a large purchase.

Use High-Quality Private Label Rights Articles

If the cost of a ghostwriter isn't in the budget, consider purchasing some high-quality private label rights articles. Because they're sold to many webmasters, PLR articles are extremely cost effective. The key to using them, though, is in the rewrite. Never post PLR "as is" since many other webmasters will (even though they, too, have been advised against it). Instead, take a few minutes and rewrite it in your own voice, adding your own spin.

Share Free Reprint Articles

While the latest Google update may have knocked the article directories down a few notches in the search results, these massive article repositories can be a gold mine when it comes to generating content. Of course, you can't change the articles you find, so if you're going to use them on your website, write a short introductory paragraph to make it somewhat unique - at least as far as the search engines are concerned.

Another idea for using these articles, though, is to use them in your email autoresponder instead of on your website. This way Google won't ever see them or associate them with your site, but you'll still save time on content creation, since now you won't have to write this week's newsletter.

Get Your Users to Create Content for You

Here's a super-easy way to generate lots of free content - get your readers to create it for you. Here's how: Host a contest asking readers to share their favorite ways to use your product, reasons why they love it, or even they're biggest mistakes when buying. Post the answers to your blog over a series of days. The more publicity you generate for your contest (and the better your prize) the more content you'll get.

With all the other work you have to do, continuous content creation can be a real challenge. Unfortunately, "write a blog post" is one of those things that often gets pushed to the bottom of your to-do list. By mixing these seven content creation strategies, you'll be able to maintain a steady stream of fresh blog posts to keep your readers - and the search engines - happy.

Different Types of Online Business Models

There are many different ways to make money on the internet. Instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, the fastest and easiest way to ensure your success is to replicate a model that’s already proven to make money. Here are five business models for making money online.

The Informational Website

The informational website is based on giving away free information. Its primary source of income is AdSense, advertising and affiliate product sales.

For example, if you were to start a small website on fishing, put up 50 articles about various fishing tips and techniques and populated it with AdSense ads, you’d very likely get decent traffic as well as make a decent amount of money.

Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is when you’re making money by selling other people’s products. Instead of having to create a product, a detailed website, setup billing and handle customer service, all you need to do is bring in traffic.

Once you get the traffic to their website, their job is to make the sale. Once the sale is made, you get a percentage of the sale price. For physical products, the commission is usually between 5% and 20%. For digital products, the commission is usually between 50% and 75%.

eCommerce Stores

Another way to make money online is to actually sell products from an eCommerce store. Here, you would actually own a web store where customers would place orders and then ship them a physical product.

At first you might start out by having a dropshipping relationship with manufacturers so you don’t have to warehouse your own products. Then, as you become more successful you’ll want to start housing some of your own products to reduce your per item costs.

Infoproduct Marketing

Infoproduct marketing is when you’re selling products that teach people how to do things. These products can be anything from “How to Choose a Chiropractor” to “How to Get a Babysitting Job” to “How to Increase Your Miles Per Gallon.”

The possibilities are endless. You need three primary skills to succeed in information marketing:

1) The ability to bring traffic to your website.

2) The ability to create good content in a specific area.

3) The ability to convince people online that your infoproduct is a good investment that will help them solve their problem.

Once you have these three skills, you’ll be able to produce many profitable infoproduct websites.

The Made for Acquisition Model

If you’re looking to build something larger than a website that’s making a few thousand dollars a month, then you’re looking at building a real company that’s meant for acquisitions or IPOs.

These are companies like LinkExchange (acquired for $250 million,) Facebook (valued at over a billion.)

The trick to building such a company is to find a market need to serve and to serve that need. In the process, you’ll generally have to learn how to raise capital from Venture Capitalists and angel investors.

Before trying to build such a business, it’s usually a good idea to build at least a couple smaller successful online bsuiensses using the models above.

WordPress plugin – Datafeedr ads

This WordPress plugin allows you to place and easily rotate ads on your site. You can add different ad groups and then place them through the use of widgets.

Once you’ve installed and activated the plugin, you can access it under “Tools” on the left side of your WordPress dashboard. Here you can add and manage your existing ad groups.

Simply enter your ad code and keep adding more ads to rotate by clicking “Ad Box”:

Then you can specify the positioning of the ad group by using your widgets.

Just drag and drop the “Datafeedr Random Ads” widget to the location you want on your blog.

Give your ad group a title and choose the ad group you want to include.

Your ads will now rotate in the position you specify. You can edit your ad groups and add more ads anytime.
