Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ

1. What is a URL?
URL stands for uniform resource locator and that makes perfect sense
if you think in internet terms. You are wanting to locate a resource and
we needed a uniform way to do it! When your site is put on the internet,
it's assigned an IP# i.e. 64.119.160.56 Rather than saying, "Visit
my website at 64.119.160.56", you simply say "Visit me at www.premiumwebdesign.com"
which is much easier to remember!
2. What does it cost to put my site on the internet?
Nowadays, very little! With a setup fee of $10 (currently being WAIVED)
and hosting for as low as $10, you can have a domain name AND a hosting
account for HALF of what it used to cost to register your domain name
for two years (it was $70 to register a name through Network Solutions
for two years prior to ICANN allowing other registrars to register names).
We cater to small businesses so our hourly fee is kept very LOW so even
if you need design, you're not looking at spending thousands of dollars
if you choose Premium Web Design and Hosting.
3. I misplaced my welcome letter. How do I get to my
control panel?
First of all, you can go HERE to generate a
new welcome letter. Then just go to your domain name followed by cpanel.
For example, http://www.premiumwebdesign.com/cpanel/
and enter your username and password.
4. Is there a quicker way to access my webmail?
YES, you can now access your webmail by going to your domain name address
followed by /webmail/ In other words, you can go to http://www.premiumwebdesign.com/webmail/ and enter your username and password so that you don't have to go through
the control panel!
NOTE: The / at the end is required.
5. Can I run scripts outside my cgi-bin?
YES, but you'll need to go into your file manager via the control panel
and add this line to your .htaccess file
AddHandler cgi-script .cgi .pl
If there's not already a .htaccess file, it's just a text file which you
can create in notepad and upload to your site.
More questions to come as YOU ask them! One downside to having such a
great server is that we don't get a lot of questions
